Automatic Binding Brick 2x2 with Opposite Slots, bslot02a No Logo
This is an opposite slotted 2x2 Automatic Binding Brick, ABB, bslot02a w/ no logo released in 1949. Automatic Binding Bricks were the first bricks ever released by . The first ABB's did not even have the logo on them. The logo was not added to the bricks until 1953.
ABB’s were slotted for doors and windows and made of Cellulose Acetate, CA. Cellulose Acetate was unstable and often led to warping so LEGO replaced it with acrylonitrile butadiene styrene (ABS) in 1963.
These ABB's are hollow on bottom, without tubes. Tubes were not added to the bottom of bricks until 1958.
The ABB title evolved into Mursten in 1953.
ABB’s were available in Red, White, Yellow, Light Green, and Medium Blue. However, Marbled bricks were made using plastic pellets that would be leftover at the end of a run. The pellets were mixed together to make the bricks look marbled. These were sold by as factory seconds for half the price of a regular brick.
