LCR Coin is offering this 2011 American Eagle 25th Anniversary 5pc Silver Set NGC 70 John Mercanti Signed.

The United States Mint released the 25th Anniversary American Silver Eagle Set to celebrate the 25th Anniversary of the Silver Eagle.

The set was limited a production of 100,000 sets and includes two coins that were exclusive to the set.

The set includes five Silver Eagles with different finishes and/or mint marks.

The two coins unique to this set and not offered individually giving them an extremely low mintage. The 2011-P Reverse Proof Silver Eagle was struck at the Philadelphia Mint and the 2011-S Uncirculated Silver Eagle was struck at the San Francisco Mint and carried the S mint mark. The set sold out in 4.5 hours.

These coins are hand signed by John Mercanti himself (the 12th chief engraver and the designer of the reverse of the American Silver Eagle). Set includes each of the following Silver Eagles: "W" mintmark burnished, "W" mintmark proof, "P" mintmark reverse proof, "S" mintmark uncirculated and no mintmark bullion.

The American Silver Eagle

The American Silver Eagle is the official silver bullion coin of the United States first released November 24, 1986. American Silver eagles are only struck in the one-troy ounce size, which has a face value of one dollar and is guaranteed to contain one troy ounce of 99.9% pure silver. The Silver American Eagle coins were minted at the San Francisco Mint from 1986 – 1992. From 1993 – 2000 the coins were minted in the Philadelphia Mint. In 2001 the Silver Eagle production moved to West Point where the minting is still done today. Adolph A. Weinman designed the obverse known as The Walking Liberty and John Mercanti designed the reverse.

John Mercanti

John Mercanti was the 12th Chief Engraver of the United States Mint and designed the American Silver Eagle Reverse. The reverse design is John Mercanti’s rendition of the Heraldic Eagle with a shield grasping an olive branch with one talon and an arrow in the other. Above the eagle are thirteen stars that represent the original thirteen colonies. The eagle holds a banner with the motto ‘E PLURIBUS UNUM’ in its beak. ‘UNITED STATES OF AMERICA’ and ‘1 OZ FINE SILVER~ ONE DOLLAR’ are inscribed on this side along with John Mercanti’s initials.
